Jeremy Seligman

What do you know and how do you know it?  Although seeing is believing, much of what we believe is not based on our personal experience but on the reports of others, from our families and schools, from books and film, from newspapers and TV, and increasingly from social media. And often, we learn not only from the content of a message but from how that message is delivered.  As a logician, I want to understand how to reason about knowledge acquired in these diverse ways. This lecture will outline a few ideas from recent research in logic that helps us understand some aspects of this social knowing.
