苏天辅教授(1922—2017),广东番禺人。出生于一个书香世家,接受了中西学的良好熏陶。1949年考入清华大学哲学系读研究生,师从金岳霖先生学习逻辑学,与冯契、周礼全、王浩、沈有鼎、殷海光等同宗同门。1952年研究生毕业后受聘于东北师范大学。1956年从东北师范大学调入西南师范学院(现西南大学),为西大开启了哲学之门。1981年开始招收硕士研究生(共招收了24名),1987年评聘为西南师范大学(现西南大学)教授。历任教研室主任、系主任、研究所所长、校务委员、校文科学术委员会主任等职。曾任中国逻辑学会常务理事、学术咨询委员,四川省逻辑学会会长,四川省社科联理事,重庆市自然辩证法研究理事长,中国金岳霖学术基金会学术委员,中国辩证逻辑研究会副理事长、顾问等。

苏先生秉承其导师金岳霖的学术精神,潜心学问、勤奋治学、呕心沥血、倾力育人,为西南大学逻辑学的建设倾注了毕生精力。1982年领衔申报获批逻辑学硕士授予权,为西南大学在2003年获得逻辑学博士学位授予权、2009年获得哲学一级学科博士后流动站、2010年获得哲学一级学科博士学位授予权等奠定了坚实的基础。

苏先生学不厌、教不倦,一贯以自强不息、厚德载物自勉。著有《形式逻辑》《人类重要逻辑命题》等书,并主编、参编过多部教材,其中《普通逻辑》一书被国家教委定为高等学校教材,并于1995年被国家教委评为高校优秀教材一等奖,1984年开始担任过中央广播电视大学逻辑学主讲教师,学生每年最多达到八十多万人。先生发表过多篇学术论文,曾获1989年获四川省优秀教学成果二等奖等奖项。先生的教学活动与学术成果,深深地影响了我国逻辑学的发展。1978年被评为重庆市先进工作者,1995年被评为重庆市劳动模范、优秀教师,1992年起享受国务院政府特殊津贴。

苏天辅先生不仅对许多哲学和逻辑问题提出了自己独立的见解,得到同行专家好评,而且还培养了包括现任中国逻辑学会会长邹崇理研究员等在内的一批在当今逻辑学界有重要影响的逻辑学人,对我国逻辑学的发展产生了重大影响。

Professor Su Tianfu (1922—2017) was a native of Panyu, Guangdong. Born into an academically inclined family, he received a solid education blending Eastern and Western knowledge. In 1949, he entered the graduate program in the Department of Philosophy at Tsinghua University, where he studied logic under the guidance of Mr. Jin Yuelin, alongside peers such as Feng Qi, Zhou Liquan, Wang Hao, Shen Youding, Yin Haiguang, and others. After graduating in 1952, he was appointed at Northeast Normal University, and in 1956, he transferred to Southwest Normal College (now Southwest University), initiating the study of philosophy at the institution. In 1981, he began recruiting master's students (a total of 24 were recruited), and in 1987, he was appointed as a professor at Southwest Normal University. He held various positions including director of the teaching and research office, department chair, director of the research institute, member of the university affairs committee, and director of the humanities and social sciences academic committee. He also served as the executive director and academic consultant of the Chinese Association of Logic, president of the Sichuan Logic Society, director of the Sichuan Provincial Social Science Federation, chairman of the Chongqing Natural Dialectics Research Society, academic committee member of the China Jin Yuelin Academic Foundation, vice chairman, and consultant of the China Dialectical Logic Research Association, among others.

Mr. Su upheld the academic spirit of his mentor Jin Yuelin, devoting himself to scholarship, diligent study, and dedicated teaching, thereby dedicating his life to the development of logic at Southwest University. In 1982, he led the application for and approval of the Master's degree program in Logic, laying a solid foundation for Southwest University to obtain the Doctoral degree program in Logic in 2003, the first-level discipline postdoctoral station in Philosophy in 2009, and the Doctoral degree program in Philosophy in 2010.

Mr. Su was tireless in his pursuit of knowledge and tireless in his teaching, always striving for self-improvement and moral excellence. He authored books such as "Formal Logic" and "Important Logical Propositions of Humanity," and served as the chief editor and contributor to many textbooks. His book "General Logic" was designated as a higher education textbook by the State Education Commission and won the first prize for excellent textbooks in higher education in 1995. Since 1984, he has served as the chief lecturer of logic at the Central Radio and Television University, with an annual student enrollment of over 800,000. He has published numerous academic papers and won awards such as the Second Prize for Excellent Teaching Achievements in Sichuan Province in 1989. His teaching activities and academic achievements have deeply influenced the development of logic in China. He was named an Advanced Worker of Chongqing in 1978, a Model Worker and Outstanding Teacher of Chongqing in 1995, and has been enjoying a special government allowance from the State Council since 1992.

Professor Su Tianfu not only presented his own independent views on many philosophical and logical issues, earning praise from his peers, but also cultivated a group of logicians, including the current president of the Chinese Association of Logic, Researcher Zou Chongli, who have had a significant impact on the development of logic in China today.
